If you have a straight-stocked rifle such as the Sharps #3 sporter, you may find it difficult to control the rifle during recoil, particularly when shooting offhand. There are two solutions. The first is to buy or restock with a conventional pistol grip. But that is rather expensive to say the least and you might find that the heel of the pistol grip is too far back to be of any help.
